In fact, many of elementary, middle and high schools in Japan ("schools") still make pupils and students dissect frogs, mice, and fish. Countless animals have been dissected, suffered and sacrificed in science classes.

Animal dissection is not banned. Whether animal dissection is carried out or not is at schools' discretion.
At present, animal dissection in schools is neither compulsory nor banned in Japan. Therefore, there is no end to the number of science or biology teachers who easily carry out animal dissection to teach anatomy or reproduction and generation. In other words, it's a school's or teacher's discretion whether to conduct animal dissection in class because it is unregulated and uncontrolled.

Animal dissection impacts negatively on children.
Research shows that killing living creatures or treating cadavers thoughtlessly in a science class under the name of education has an adverse impact on children's mental health and how harmful it could be, and such cases are published in Journal of Contemporary Ethnography and others.

Excellent learning methods without using animals are available.
In the 21st century, anatomy can be taught with a variety of cruelty-free tools, e.g. computer-based simulation, videos and graphics, and accurate 3D models. There are many advantages of these humane alternatives. To name just a few, students can study at their own pace and use them as many times as they would like. Research papers published in journals such as The American Biology Teacher and Alternatives to Animal Experimentation suggest that humane alternatives are as effective as or even better than animal dissection in terms of knowledge acquired through by students.

Please sign a petition to end animal dissection in schools in Japan!
JAVA has urged and persuaded many schools to discontinue animal dissection. Students at these schools painfully appealed to us for help saying "I don't want to dissect", "I felt sick when I was forced to dissect", or "please don’t make it happen again", and this is how we found out the fact.
We must eliminate dissection from all classrooms in Japan in order not to hurt students any more and to stop making animals suffer. Main reason for the continued use of animal dissection in schools is that dissection is accepted as a teaching method in the Courses of Study, issued by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), which all schools refer to as the guideline for establishing curricula.
This guideline will be revised in the coming two years from 2015 to 2016. The revision happens once in a decade.
Please sign the petition for abolishing animal dissection from all schools in Japan!
